Hon. Ravi Karunanayake M.P., in association with the National Youth Front – Kotte and the Diriya Foundation conducted a house to house “Dengue” eradication campaign in the Kotte area on Saturday 4th July 2009.
The incidence of dengue has increased drastically this year when compared to previous years, and has so far resulted in the death of around 250 persons including children.
Public awareness to prevent mosquito breeding is essential and the campaign was aimed at educating the people of Kotte about keeping their environment and homes clean by preventing water stagnation, destroying used cans, coconut shells, bottles etc. which are the main source of breeding mosquitoes.
The programme commenced at the United National Party Headquarters “Sri Kotha” at 9.30 a.m. with the active participation of Hon. Ravi Karunanayaka who was seen clearing the area of all material that breeds the dreaded mosquito.
It was evident that the programme was a tremendous success by the enthusiasm, suppport and encouragement given by the residents of the Kotte area and by the members who participated in the programme to have the area free of the dreaded Mosquito.
