Answers for the Parliamentary Question No.0384/’10

A feasibility study is undertaken to reclaim a land of 300 – 400 acres in the open sea between Galle Face to Kollupitiya.

By a team of professional comprising of University of Moratuwa and Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

The approximate project cost is estimated as US $ 300 Million.

Environment Impact Assessment study for the project is undertaken.

Local consultants    -    Sri Lanka experts comprising of University of Moratuwa and

Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

Foreign consultants    -    Foreign consultants are limited to short term assignment

depend of the requirement.        

Investors        -    It has not yet been decided by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

01    The new Port City will be planned and develop as a modern planned city to establish economic centre of Colombo City addressing constraints related to the haphazard development of buildings and road network in the existing Colombo City.

02    New Port City will enhance the investment opportunities in phase with the Colombo Port Expansion Project and enable us to reach mega economic targets.

The project cost could be recovered in 3 – 5 years and we are not in a position to declare the payback period since the funding source is not yet finalized.
