Hon. Ravi Karunanayake – To ask the Minister of Labour and Labour Relations

Question

(a)     I.    As to when the minimum salaries of the private sector will be increased?
Wages boards minimum salaries have been increased in year 2010’ It is not decided yet about a salary increase in this year.

II    The amount in Sri Lankan rupees to be increased in salaries of the various categories in the private sector separately and?
Not relevant.

III    The last occasions in which the salaries of the private sector employees were increased over the last 10 years?
Salaries of 39 wages boards were increased in the last year (2010)
(Relevant particulars has been attached, Please see Attachment  I)

(b)     (i)    As to when the salaries of the Public Sector going to be increased;

The Public Administrative Circular No.28/2010 dated 31/12/2010 has been issued referring to the revision of salaries and allowances of the Public Sector in accordance with the Budget Proposals 2011.  The first stage is implemented with effect from 01.01.2011 as per its provision and second stage is implemented with effect from 01.07.2011.

(ii) The amount to be increased; and
Steps have been taken to revise the salaries and allowances of public servants as per the Public Administrative Circular No.28/2010 and that of the employees of state corporations and boards as per the Management Services Circular No.43 and 44 (The copies of the relevant circulars are herewith attached.).

Steps have been taken to pay all the public servants 5% of the basic salary received at present with effect from 01.01.2011 as well as to pay Rs.600/- added to the Cost of Living allowance currently paid to officers whose initial monthly salary is below Rs.22,935/- with effect from 01.01.2011. It is scheduled to pay Rs.600/- added to the Cost of Living allowance paid at present for the officers initial monthly salary is Rs.22,935/-  and above.  The daily pay is increased by 5% for the daily paid employees and they are paid Rs.195/- per day as the Cost of Living allowance with effect from 01.01.2011.

(iii) The minimum pensionable salaries for the various categories of the Public Service?

The minimum monthly salary scales inclusive of pensions for the categories of Public Sector as per the Public Administrative Circular No.06/2006 are as follows;
