Ranil apologizes over UNP headquarters attack

Ranil-Front--viewLeader of the opposition and the UNP Ranil Wickremesinghe has apologized from party supporters and the entire nation for failing to protect the party headquarters Sirikotha from attackers. Speaking in parliament today (Dec. 20), he asked the government to conduct an impartial and proper investigation into the attack on Sirikotha. He also said that western provincial councillor of the party Shiral Lakthilake should be investigated as to how he obtains foreign funding. A request has been made to stop German funding for one of his NGOs, said Mr. Wickremesinghe. He also said that the UNP was a party that respects media freedom, but that Maharajas should not be allowed to interfere in internal affairs of the party.
