The main opposition UNP yesterday said it had rejected a request made by Velayutham Dayanithi alias Daya Master and his supporters to contest the Northern Provincial Council on the UNP ticket.UNP Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanayake told a news conference that the group met the UNP leaders during their recent visit to the North.The UNP MP made this point referring to a statement by Daya Master that former LTTE cadres should be allowed to contest elections.

කොට්ටාවේ සිට කොලොන්නව දක්වාත් කෙළවරපිටියේ සිට කඩවත දක්වාත් කිලෝමීටර් 30.9 ක් අධිවේගී මාර්ගය දිගු කිරීම සදහා රුපියල් කෝටි 13,300 ක් වියදම් කිරීමට ඇස්තමේන්තු කිරීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ ප‍්‍රශ්න කර විවාදයක් ගැනීමට එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂය තීරණය කර තිබේ. දකුණු අධිවේගී මාර්ගයේ සියලූ කටයුතු නිම් කිරීම සදහා එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂ ආණ්ඩුව ඇස්තමේන්තු කළේ රුපියල් කෝටි 9800 වීමත් ඉතිරි කිලෝමීටර් 30.9 සදහ පමණක් රුපියක් කෝටි 13300ක් වැයවන්නේ කෙසේදැයි පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේදී ප‍්‍රශ්න කරමින්

එක්සත් ජනතා නිදහස් සන්ධාන ආණ්ඩුව දවසින් දවස පැයෙන් පැය තත්පරයෙන් තත්පරය රටට ජනතාවට කෙරෙන බොරුව සහ වංචාව පිළිබඳව මේ වන විට සමස්ත ජනතාව හොඳින් අවබෝධ කර ගෙන සිටින බව එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂ කොළඹ දිස්ත්‍රික් පා.ම රවී කරුණානායක මහතා පැවසීය. මන්ත්‍රීවරයා මේ බව පැවසූයේ අද (10)  රාජගිරිය ජාතික වතු කම්කරු සංගම් ශාලාවේදී පැවති මාධ්‍යය හමුවකදීය. එහිදී ඔහු මෙසේද පැවසීය.

UNP Colombo District Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake, condemning Salley’s arrest, said that the outspoken politician had stood by his community and resisted the government’s anti-democratic acts. He said that anyone who spoke against the Mahinda Rajapaksa Regime faced harassment and that Salley’s arrest was a travesty of justice.
