Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday assured the commitment of his party to preserve freedom for the people in all aspects. In his Independence Day Message, Mr. Wickremesinghe said the freedom which the people are entitled to is being restricted today through various means.

UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe stated that funds will soon be collected for the repairs on the party headquarters which was attacked by angry loyalists following the party elections last month.The party leader branded the attackers as enemies of the parties and stated that those who defend or protect them will also be branded as enemies.

ආණ්‌ඩුවේ ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍ර විරෝධී ක්‍රියා පිළිවෙතට එරෙහිව පුළුල් ජනතා ව්‍යාපාරයක්‌ රට පුරා දියත් කිරීමට එක්‌සත් ජාතික පක්‍ෂය තීරණය කර ඇත. "අවනීතියට එරෙහි ජනතා ව්‍යාපාරය" ලෙස නම් කොට තිබෙන ආණ්‌ඩු විරෝධී මෙම වැඩසටහන ඉදිරි සති තුන ඇතුළත ආරම්භ කරන බව එම පක්‍ෂය  පැවැසීය.

We look forward to the New Year with the expectation of realizing all our new dreams in the coming year.However, realizing those dreams has been made extremely difficult in this society and in this era where justice, fairness, democracy and human rights have been brutally subjugated.
